A tornado, also known as a twister, is a type of very strong storm that has a rapidly rotating column of air, between the clouds and the ground. Most of the world's tornadoes occur in the central part of the United States, especially in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas - an area known as Tornado Alley. They almost never happen in Washington.
